We have taken a look at some of the hottest new hotels opening in 2019 that will tempt you to locations all around the world so pack your curiosity and open your mind!
Here’s what’s on the map for 2019.
Casa Cook, Chania, Crete
When Casa Cook first opened its jungle vibed, beach-club-chic hotel on the island of Rhodes a few summers back, I was surprised to find that British travel company, Thomas Cook was behind it!
It made more sense when I discovered that they had teamed up with Berlin-based interiors firm Lambs and Lions (also responsible for the rather cool, Scorpios in Mykonos) to design the hotel. Since then, another jungle-themed oasis has popped up on Kos and this year will see the third Greek Casa Cook open right on the Cretan coast.
This Casa Cook is unique in the fact that it is the first to welcome families and is completely attuned to hip kids - think Neverland-inspired treehouse and sleepovers in teepees.
For us adults, we get to enjoy the laid-back spirit and beachy atmosphere, be it through some outdoor yoga or cocktails by the pool under the stars. Each of the stunning cabana's, which house the rooms, offer a fashionable mash-up of mid-century and desert minimalism with earthy tones and organic textures, oh and did I mention the private swimming holes?
Nobu Hotel, Los Cabos
Los Cabos is eagerly looking forward to spring with the anticipated opening of the zen Nobu Hotel.
The 200-room property is a joint venture between Chef Nobu Matsuhisa and Robert De Niro. There will be 103 suites and 97 standard rooms, all of which will have bathtubs/soaking tubs and walk-in showers, Nespresso machines and a traditional Japanese tea set, 65-inch TVs and private balconies; some rooms will offer butler service.
Following Nobu brand’s sleek design ethos, the Nobel Hotel will effortlessly blend contemporary Japanese minimalism with Mexican materials and finishes. Drawing design inspiration from the sophisticated palette that alludes to the Japanese aesthetic of the Nobu brand, as well as the unique elements of Cabo San Lucas, Nobu Hotel is the perfect fusion of architectural elegance and laidback luxury.
It goes without saying that a Nobu Restaurant goes hand-in-hand with the launch of this new hotel, meaning that miso black cod and rock shrimp tempura are available on tap (thank god for room service). When you awaken from your food coma, there is an outdoor hydrotherapy garden spa, including an experiential shower, cabana jacuzzi, saunas, a Watsu treatment pool and an outdoor shower.
Four pools will be located on the property, including infinity pools, private swim-up cabanas, private beach cabanas, and four super cabanas with a full bathroom, daybed, living area and TV. Need we say more.....
Proper Hotel, Downtown LA
If the first Proper Hotel in San Francisco is anything to go by, this Downtown Los Angeles incarnation will be a wild mix of colours, patterns and the perfect Instagram backdrops!
As a hospitality group that prides itself on catering to entrepreneurs, visionaries and creative thinkers by positioning itself in thriving, innovative districts, this Downtown LA location is simply perfect.
It's set in a historic Renaissance Revival-style building on the corner of Broadway and 11th and will house 148 guest rooms, two ground-floor restaurants, a gym, two presidential suites, a rooftop restaurant, bar and pool.
At Proper, every detail, every interaction, every moment, matters, so check this spot out before it gets inundated with every influencer in LA.
Dá Licença, Alentejo, Portugal
This former olive mill covers one hundred and twenty hectares of magnificent hills, including more than thirteen thousand olive trees, which arise from the rocks of pure white and pink marble.
The location is unique with its wonderful 360 ° view of the Serra d'Ossa forest and the beautiful castles of Evoramonte and Estremoz, in the medieval and Manueline style.
The building and its accompanying barns have been beautifully renovated and extended by architects Procale, under the direction of owners Victor Borges and Franck Laigneau. The pair stumbled across the property while searching for a holiday villa and have since transformed its rustic interiors into a home for their extensive collection of art and furniture.
Guests can stay in one of three rooms in the main farmhouse or in a suite with its own swimming pool, in one of the outbuildings. Each building and room started with an original structure and was then injected with some contemporary flair, with extraordinary bathtubs handcrafted using local marble, huge double doors opening out onto private, fig tree-lined patios and a private emerald green infinity pool.
Dá Licença offers complete stillness and quiet and truly feels a million miles away from the rest of the crazy world we live in.
Santarena Hotel, Costa Rica
Set to open in February 2019, the Santarena is located in the bohemian beach town of Las Catalinas. This tropically elegant oasis inspired by a palette of people and places is a bohemian pearl perched between two of Costa Rica’s most beautiful Pacific beaches, in Las Catalinas, Guanacaste.
Inspired by the old mansions of Cartagena and Havana, this hotel’s design is first class. While the rooms are stupidly stylish, you’ll probably find yourself outdoors at the rooftop lounge and/or beachfront infinity pool most of the time. However, if you are the more adventurous type, then why not get stuck into some snorkelling and paddle boarding or maybe go for a hike to the waterfalls that are a breeze to access from the hotel.
Santarena is a place where cosmopolitan minds and curious spirits can naturally gather, gracefully connecting and epitomizing “pura vida” – a life where people and their wellness are top priorities and where nature is cared for and enjoyed by all.
Vintry & Mercer, London
Vintry & Mercer is the newest city slicker, set amongst the historic livery halls and winding lanes that line the banks of the Thames.
Step inside, and you’ll note its slickness. The hotel lobby is more like an haute greenhouse, with plants in terracotta pots and Liberty-esque florals. All of the 92 rooms and suites have been given the 5-star treatment, and are dressed in plush fabrics including bespoke velvet headboards, and feature luxury comforts such as well as under floor heating in the bathrooms.
The Balcony Suites are sure to be popular, with their room length terraces offering stunning river views across to the Southbank, taking in sights such as the Tate Modern and the Shard.
Vintry Kitchen is perfect for early-evening Asian tapas, while the Mercer roof terrace serves up seafood from the British Isles with a view over the London skyline.
JK Place, Paris
JK Paris will be the first property outside of Italy for Ori Kafri and has to be one of the most exciting openings of the year, guaranteed to shake things up on the Left Bank.
Opening towards the end of May in an elegant former European Consulate building on rue de Lille in the French capital a mere hop from the Musée d'Orsay, JK Place Paris won’t lose any of its renowned Italian dolce vita feel.
It’s designed, like the others, by Florentine Michele Bonan, who has mixed in a sense of place with antiques from Parisian flea markets, commissioned pieces from French designers with his signature ultra-chic, Dedar-fabric-heavy style.
There will be a Sisley spa and pool in the basement, and on the ground floor, Ori has brought in his friend Micky Grendene to bring his Italian restaurant Casa Tua over from Aspen to create an all-day eating and drinking spot.
Lekkerwater Beach Lodge, South Africa
Due to open in April 2019, Lekkerwater Beach Lodge is the newest addition to the Natural Selection portfolio.
Located in the stunning De Hoop Nature Reserve, which is one of South Africa's best-kept secrets, this 34,000-hectare wild & wonderous place is just over 3-hours drive from Cape Town and offers some incredible scenery from fynbos and beach to wetlands and sand dunes which roll into the Indian Ocean.
Lekkerwater's prime location along the South African coast means it is the perfect spot to visit from July to November for a spot of land-based whale watching. These magnificent animals migrate and birth along the south coast of South Africa and can often be seen from land.
With just seven rooms in total, Lekkerwater Beach Lodge will be an intimate and relaxing lodge that will provide guests with a comfortable stay and the perfect opportunity to get away from the crowds and get back to nature.
Mount Mulligan Lodge, Australia
